Recently, the company undertook a comprehensive redesign and optimization of an established packaging for powdered beverages, offering customers a compelling alternative with substantial benefits. Through a successful Product Development process and a thorough examination of crucial factors including sustainability, functionality, product protection, cost, and appearance, the company introduced the 500g and 250g packs.
The outcome of this new design is the creation of stylish, high-quality packaging achieved through a more efficient use of resources—an innovation that was recognized and honored at the Packaging Awards 2023, securing the Gold Award for “Innovation in Plastic Packaging” and the Silver Award for “Reusable/Recyclable Package”. Specifically, the R&D team optimized the geometry of containers and lids, resulting in a substantial reduction in the use of raw materials. This has led to lighter, fully recyclable packaging made from a single material (a monomaterial approach). Additionally, the option of incorporating an O2 oxygen barrier label enhances food protection.
The redesigned packaging has also delivered significant benefits in the supply chain. It allows for easier stacking and palletization of products, resulting in both space and cost savings during transportation and storage.
Similarly to the entire product range of Kotronis Packaging, the new packaging offers the flexibility of using certified alternative raw materials that promote the circular economy (bio-circular polypropylene), with no impact whatsoever on the durability or appearance of the products. The company holds certification under the independent international ISCC Plus standard, which ensures the incorporation of bio-circular materials in the production process and provides complete traceability through mass balance calculation. In addition, having carried out in-depth research on the impact of alternative materials on carbon footprint, the company is able to provide its partners with all necessary information with the aim of reducing emissions and creating eco-friendly packaging.
