Pharma products are a special category when it comes to packaging. Their proper storage requires packaging materials of high requirements and specifications and therefore often requires packaging in capsules, with induction sealing, etc., types that are not often found in other product categories.

It is a fact that lately there has been a need for more sustainable habits and limited use of plastic. Therefore, eco-friendly solutions are a priority for the pharma industry. This new transition to new types of packaging is not that simple for the pharma industry, since they have to find a balance with ensuring that products are still manufactured and packaged safely.

Moreover, the pandemic created expectations for even quicker and better manufacturing and distribution of products, which of course includes their packaging. Therefore, pharma companies are now looking for solutions that respond to the increased demand and therefore to the need for faster distribution, mitigate some of the risks of transport and distribution, while ensuring increased profit and improved safety.

Finally, patient need still remain of outmost importance, since they inspire and affect the packaging market of both devices and medication. This includes the need for self-managed devices that are more user-friendly and convenient while maintaining at the same time the highest standards of safety, efficiency and quality.

Given that the packaging sector for pharmaceutical products has been growing rapidly during the last years and may exceed 95 billion euros by 2024, there is need and room for innovative ideas and new concepts in this rapidly growing sector.
